Feast

A kitchen that comes to you.

Good food, island ingredients, a van. Currently being built.

Feast is a mobile food kitchen — a van fitted out to cook and serve food at the places and events where having a kitchen arrive is better than not having one at all.

That sounds simple. The thinking behind it is a little more specific than that.

Great Bernera is a small island without a restaurant, without a café, without anywhere to get cooked food unless someone is cooking at home. Lewis as a whole has relatively few food events that draw on what the island actually produces. The Outer Hebrides has some of the best fish, lamb, and dairy produce in Scotland, and most visitors eat it somewhere else, if they eat it at all.

Feast is an attempt to close some of that gap. A kitchen that moves, that goes to community events and island gatherings, that cooks food from island ingredients for people who are already there. The van is the means. The meals are the point.

The Food

The food Feast makes will come from the island as much as possible. Fish from the local boats. Lamb from island crofts. Vegetables from the CRØFT 22 kitchen garden when the season allows. Dairy from Lewis and Harris producers.

The cooking will be straightforward — not elaborate, not trying to be a restaurant in a van. Good ingredients, cooked well, served in a way that makes sense at an outdoor event or a community gathering. The kind of food that feels like it belongs where it is being eaten.

The menu will change with what's available. That is not a limitation. It is the whole point.

Currently in Development

Feast is being built. The van is there. The kitchen fit-out is in progress. The plan is clear.

We are not going to announce a launch date until we are ready. What we can say is: it is coming, and when it is ready it will be ready properly.

If you would like to know when Feast launches, for events, bookings, or simply because you want to know, get in touch and we'll add you to the list.

Bookings & Events

Feast will be available for:

Community events on Lewis and the islands — the kind of gathering where food makes the event rather than just accompanies it.

Private events — weddings, celebrations, gatherings on the island where a mobile kitchen makes more sense than asking people to travel.

Markets and food fairs — when the right opportunities arise.

We are not trying to fill every weekend on a commercial schedule. Feast will go where it makes sense to go, when the timing is right and the occasion fits.

The Build

If you are interested in the process of fitting out a mobile kitchen, we will document the build here as it progresses — what the van is, what's going into it, what the decisions have been and why. Honest about the complexity and the cost, as with everything else on the croft.

Build updates to follow.
